3D Puff Transfers

Maximum vertical lift, sharp shoulders, finished hand. 3D puff is the version of puff print you reach for when the logo is the hero of the garment: a chest piece on a heavyweight hoodie, a varsity arch, or a back hit on a tour tee. Roughly twice the height of standard puff screen print.

When to pick 3D puff over other puff transfers.

3D puff is the version you pick when the print is meant to be the first thing anyone sees.

  • Hero artwork. A single bold mark that needs to read from across a room.
  • Chest logo, arched word, or back hit on a heavyweight piece.
  • Merch feel. You want the garment to feel like something worth keeping.
  • Clean shapes. One to three solid colors, no fine detail.

Skip 3D puff when the artwork is small or detail-heavy, when the program needs metallic shine (use metallic puff), when the garment stretches (use stretch puff), or when the budget needs to spread across many colors and SKUs.

Garments 3D puff looks best on.

The garment carries the volume of the print. Heavy fabric helps. Stretch fabric fights it.

  • Heavyweight cotton hoodies. The structure holds the lift without warping.
  • Fleece crewnecks. Dense knit gives the print a clean foundation.
  • Structured varsity jackets. Wool and twill carry the height naturally.
  • Heavyweight cotton tees. 220 gsm and above keeps the print sitting flat.

Less ideal for performance wear, four-way stretch, ribbed knits, coated nylon shells, or soft drapey lightweight tees. The lift looks out of place and the fabric fights the resin.

Care. Cold wash inside out, hang to dry. That is most of the durability story.

Limitations of 3D puff.

Frequently asked questions.

How tall is 3D puff compared to standard puff?

Roughly twice as tall. Standard puff screen print lifts 1.5 to 2 mm. 3D puff reaches 0.8 to 3 mm. The difference is significant in person, especially in side light.

Can a 3D puff transfer use multiple colors?

Technically yes (each color is one screen) but the 3D effect reads strongest with one to three colors. Above that, the visual complexity competes with the sculptural lift.

Does 3D puff crack more easily than regular puff?

No, if applied correctly. The application window is narrower (155 to 160 °C, medium pressure) so we ship a printed setting card with every order to reduce press errors.

What's the price difference vs standard puff screen print?

3D puff runs roughly 25 to 35% higher per piece than standard puff screen print at the same volume, because of the heavier ink deposit and tighter application tolerance.

What is the MOQ for 3D puff transfers?

500 pieces per design. The screens and ink set-up are the same effort for 100 or 1,000 pieces, so we set 500 as the volume where the per-piece cost makes sense for both sides.

What artwork format do you need?

AI or PDF vector files only, with all type converted to outlines and spot colors named or Pantone-matched. Raster art (JPG, PNG) cannot drive a clean screen separation for 3D puff.
